Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda has requested the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to seek an explanation from the Singaporean Embassy regarding allegations of an exclusive deal surrounding Taylor Swift's Southeast Asian "Eras" tour dates.
The allegations, first raised by Thailand's Prime Minister, suggest Singapore secured exclusivity for Swift's concerts in the region, preventing her from performing in other Southeast Asian countries. Salceda expressed concern that the alleged deal, if true, would contradict the spirit of cooperation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He further speculated that Singapore could have provided financial incentives to AEG Presents, the production company behind Swift's tour, to secure the exclusive agreement. Salceda noted that such a strategy, while potentially successful, could be viewed as going against the principles of good neighborly relations.
The DFA is expected to send a note verbale to the Singaporean Embassy, requesting clarification on the matter.
