Philippine Task Force Accuses China of Dangerous Actions at Ayungin Shoal
The Philippines' National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) has accused China of engaging in dangerous maneuvers that put Filipino lives at risk during a recent resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal.
According to the NTF-WPS spokesperson, Jonathan Malaya, these actions resulted in injuries to four Filipinos on board the supply vessel. The March 5th incident involved the Chinese Coast Guard reportedly using water cannons against the Philippine supply ship, Unaizah Mae 4.
The NTF-WPS condemned China's maneuvers, calling them "unprovoked acts of coercion" and a violation of a legitimate Philippine mission within its exclusive economic zone. They emphasized the potential for serious injuries and the escalation of tensions caused by such actions.
The Philippines has demanded that China withdraw its vessels from the area. The incident has drawn criticism from the United States, with their ambassador expressing strong condemnation of China's behavior.
